SCEGE-SC hosts first EsCEGE Cup

Even before the pandemic, the SCEGE Cup has been one of the local student council’s long-standing traditions wherein they hold various sports events for the students to participate in. However, since the current conditions do not allow it, the SCEGE-SC opted to hold the tournament virtually.

For this year’s EsCEGE Cup, SCEGE-SC Amusement and Recreation Representative Justin Benjamin M. Arboleda shared that their objective was “to create something similar that can help the students cope and have fun during this online setting.”

With a total of 14 matches, 14 teams participated in a single elimination Valorant tournament with the first to reach 13 points declared as the winner in each match.

The Appe’s Angels, consisting of Ian Gabriel Canlas, Rayven Joseph Mercado, Justin Caangay, Nicolo Dionisio, Enrico Joaquin Ingalla, and John Wendell Maranan, dominated the two-day tournament with 4 wins and no losses. The grand champion brought home a cash prize of Php 3,000.00.

Alpha Torotot Chupapi Spades Munyanyo Chapter Episode 3, with Tyrone Joshua D. Gianan, Nicouli Vincent V. Cagampan, Ammiel Gimpayan, Josel Dominic B. Unlayao, and Joseph Aldrich Obille, followed the grand champion with 3 wins and 1 loss. They won a cash prize amounting to Php 1,000.00.

Lalaine and the 5 Dwarfs, composed of Christian Homer M. Pasion, Ryan Dominik C. Bucao, Edmund Hans Tapado, Jian Karlo R. Sta. Maria, Juan Miguel L. Valeriano, and Dann Christian B. Munoz, finished second runner-up after winning the bonus game against Lucky TTQ. The team received a cash prize worth Php 500.00.

 
Meanwhile, the group with the most creative name was awarded to LanCElot for garnering the highest number of votes on Facebook, winning Php 500.00.

Arboleda noted that the event was delayed for two months and with modular exams falling around the same time as the tournament this time around, he applauded his team as they managed to pull it off despite the lack of manpower.

Being the first of many to come, the SCEGE-SC representative shared the council’s desire to include more games in the EsCEGE Cup in the future. “Hopefully, we can organize e-sports tournaments that not only focus on one game [Valorant], but several games so that a lot more people, or a lot more students can join,” he said.
